Creative Locale – Artist’s Collective

Creative Locale was established in 2019 as a web site shop for local artists and makers to sell their artworks online – and to give greater visibility to the individuals and their artworks in a “crowded” online world.

The original team consisted of 3 members of the Reeves family (see below.)

The online shop was replaced by the “collective” in 2023 – a group of like-minded artists and creatives who share knowledge, experience and skills and support each other – through shared exhibitions, joint marketing and promotional efforts, advocacy, and collaborative works.

Creative Locale today

Creative Locale is a thriving artists’ collective based in and around Caversham, near Reading – practising in all disciplines, from painting and sculpture to jewellery and conceptual art.

Many have studied their art, craft or design to a high level and several have over twenty five years of experience working and exhibiting their pieces within the art, craft and design sector.

The community’s focus today is on sharing their knowledge, experience and skills with each other and supporting one another in creativity, through shared exhibitions, joint marketing and promotional efforts, advocacy, and collaborative works.

Our Story

After leaving the University of Reading where I studied fine art I worked as a Primary School Teacher and a Graphic Designer – but I was never truly happy. I crammed as much crafting, art and DIY makes into my evenings and weekends but it never felt enough.

Slowly as life started to get in the way, my passions started to be put aside for another day. After facing an incredibly difficult time in my life I turned to my Yoga to help me find balance, calm and inspiration.

Freshly armed with the realisation that I wanted to live a more creative, mindful life I decided to create MADEbyTamalia – A colourful, warm and welcoming space, where others could escape the rat race and indulge in some well-deserved creative ’me time.’

MADEbyTamalia is very much a creative space but that doesn’t mean it just for ‘creative’ types. It is about bringing community together. About reconnecting with people, whilst doing something holistic that’s beneficial to your wellbeing, as well as helping you learn a new skill.

The business idea came from a passion for helping small businesses to thrive. As a graduate in Economics and post graduate in business analysis, I have always been involved with managing organisations and people.

I established a print & design business in the early nineties specialising in printing on “low-grade” recycled waste paper – we were proud winners of the Mars Environmental Awards for 2 years running, working for Marine Conservation Society, Woodland Trust, BBont, Oxfam to name a few.

Over the years I have set up, run and then successfully sold several creative businesses.

I am very excited about engaging personally with both our artisan producers and customers. My personal approach to business will enable the nurturing of great working relationships with our artisans.

My passion is people. My background is marketing.

After many years running several small creative businesses with my husband I decided to retrain. So, in 2003 I went back to College and studied photography.

Since then I have built a successful career as a wedding photographer. Working across the UK and in Europe – having the absolute privilege to shoot the bride and groom on their Special Day.

In 2008, together with Graham we founded Business Biscotti – which quickly to become the philanthropic networking organisation of choice across various parts of the UK.

I love working with people and learning about their stories, and I am very excited about engaging personally with both our artisan producers and customers.

Ethos / Mission

Striving to support and promote every member of the collective and their work – through shared exhibitions, joint marketing and promotional efforts, advocacy, and collaborative works.

Our aim is to bring together local independent artists, artisans, & designers who share a core belief in aligning financial success with respect for resources – both human and environmental.

We want to inspire people to shop more consciously when buying art pieces, experiences and gifts by connecting customers to local independent artisans.

We believe the world needs more companies with a positive purpose – where nurturing people and doing the best for the planet, are as important as financial achievement.

Our focus is on supporting independent artists who are passionate experts in their craft, but at the same time want to do the best for the environment.
Ethically Driven

Our artists and designers are all pre-vetted by the existing community members so you can be assured they meet our criteria for best practice:

  • Quality craftsmanship over mass production
  • Responsible production techniques minimising waste, energy and pollution
  • Sustainability above excess consumption
  • Care for for one another’s welfare
  • Genuine support for one another

This is a small group of highly talented individuals who self-manage the membership. Members can nominate new members for election based on the quality of their work and their committment to the collective’s ethos and values.

Anyone interested in joining should make contact with an existing member for the group to consider. New memberships are considered twice a year.

Everyone who is part of the collective jointly shares costs, benefits and risks.
